Chronic mental disorders

health No Comments »

This video explains to a teenage audience three of the most chronic mental illnesses: anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder. Using a theme similar to the movie “Inside Out,” each illness is personified by a character. These characters identify the illnesses they represent, describe their prevalence, symptoms, average age of onset and how they impact daily life.

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is one of the major cause of Years Lived with Disability (YLD). It is extremely common among various societies and goes largely un-diagnosed due to its insidious nature and the stigma attached to its diagnosis and treatment seeker. Similar reason may apply to people with Schizophrenia and Autism. They need to be observed for about 6 months before they can be properly diagnosed. Some even goes undiagnosed at all.
